Here you'll also find a Baroque fountain with a centaur, the symbol of Taormina, is at the center of Piazza.

The Cathedral San Nicola - an impressive, medieval church

The portal of the Cathedral contains elements of every refurbishment it has undergone, which is yet another illustration of the way history has been blended and documented in architecture over the centuries. Furthermore, the interior of the church, with its three naves, bears testimony to both the Renaissance and Baroque eras.

The Church of San Nicola, also called the fortress cathedral, was built in 1400 over an older church. It has pink marble columns and interesting carvings. Its main portal was rebuilt in 1636 and has a Reniassance-style rosette.
The Gothic style makes the Cathedral looks similar to a fortress. The structure is a Latin cross with a nave and two aisles. The ceiling has wooden beams that are carved in Arabic style.
