Letojanni is a small village with about 2.600 inhabitants and it is situated in the county of Messina near Taormina.

The small fishing village used to be a part of the small community Gallodoro until the end of the 18th century, which is situated on the hills. It was not until 1952 that Letojanni received its autonomy.

When the railway line and the main road had been established in 1866 Letojanni became more and more important, which caused that a lot of influential families at that time moved down from the mountains of Gallodoro to Letojanni.

Letojanni has its own bus station and thus guarantees a very good bus connexion to the public transport, cheap connexions to the airport of Catania and to all major cities of Sicily.

Sights in Letojanni

The city centre of Letojanni offers one of the most stunning "piazza" of whole Italy.

The Piazza Durante, surrounded by palms, honours and is reminiscent with its bronze bust of the most eminent inhabitant of Letojanni - the medecin and researcher Francesco Durante.

Right next to the Piazza Durante you will see the church of the patron saint San Guiseppe. The church was built in a neo-gothic style and made of Travertin marble.
