Probably you think holidays in Sicily are connected to sun burn and Italian ice-cream, but they can be different, too (even though you can burn your skin also during this activity).

The Etna in Sicily is worth a trip not only due to its tremendous eruptions and the hiking tours, but the largest active European volcano also offers excellent conditions for skiing in winter.

On both sides of the "mountain of the mountains" you can find ski slopes of different degrees of difficulty, whereas the Northern hillside is protected from snow longer than the Southern part is.

Apart from down hill on the Etna you can also do cross-country skiing.
